Wooden O Cancelled for Summer 2020

It is with great and utter disappointment that Seattle Shakespeare Company must cancel our Wooden O park shows for the summer of 2020. And while we are deeply saddened not to be spending July and August together in the beautiful green spaces around our region, we know this is the responsible, respectful, and right choice.

This summer, considering the dreadful novel coronavirus threat, the prospect of large group gatherings poses too great a risk to the health and well-being of you – our audience, but also our equally valued artists and support teams. For the safety of us all, this year, we cannot go forward with Wooden O as usual.

We love being in the parks with all of you every summer; sharing stories, sharing picnics, sharing each other’s company. We truly value our time together. But we value you, our friends and fans, above all. And this summer, we must keep each other safe and healthy, so we can continue to spend time together for years to come.

It is all of our responsibility to care and look out for each other now.

We do hold out hope that some make-shift, impromptu, pop-up events or online surprises could happen, if safe conditions and guidelines allow. Stay tuned for any and everything. As we’ve all experienced in the last several weeks, things change rapidly and often unexpectedly.

We will be rescheduling the planned for shows of 2020, The Comedy of Errors and Othello, for the summer of 2021.

We will be together again.

This was an extremely hard and emotional decision for us at Seattle Shakespeare. However, this is the right decision. For us. And for you.

Stay well.

George
