Distance Learning Residencies

Let us help craft an online residency that works for you and your students.

While we much prefer being in the classroom to help students get “up on their feet” experiencing the play, we can offer the following options for distance learning:

Programs

Approx.: 45-60 minutes

Class size: Any number of students in the full class.

This introduction class is discussion-based and meant to support the Shaakespeare that is being taught in your curriculum. We explore the background of why we study Shakespeare and where we find his words today.  We will take a deep dive into the process of reading Shakespeare by approaching it as a play rather than a piece of literature. Students will learn to decode some of the less familiar words and start feeling the rhythm of iambic pentameter. From exploring the Prologue all the way through to a final Question & Answer session, students will come away with a better understanding of how to approach Shakespeare’s works.

Approx.: 45-60 minutes

Class size: Any number of students in the full class. Will require breakout rooms for small group work.

In this workshop, students who are already familiar with a play will work with a teaching artist to re-imagine the setting of the play, based on an identified theme. Working in small groups, students will develop creative ideas, then present how their concepts will highlight their chosen theme.

Approx.: 30-40 minutes

Class size: Any number of students in the full class. Will require breakout rooms for small group work.

In this workshop, students will take on the role of actors, engaging with a partner to unlock the meaning in Shakespeare’s text through table work. By focusing on identifying Objectives, Obstacles, and Tactics that would work for their characters, students discover the depth and possibility of the performance text.

Approx.: 15-45 minutes

Class size: Any number of students in the full class.

For this workshop, teachers will collect questions from students about the play you are working on, a production you have watched, or Shakespeare in general. We will send 1-3 Shakespeare experts to your virtual classroom to answer questions and engage in discussion with your class.
