While there’s nothing that’s quite like attending a live performance, right now there are several opportunities available to see streaming versions of some staged Shakespeare productions that we might not previously had access to.
So, let’s take advantage of it while we can. We’ve recently updated the list of streaming Shakespeare options to better reflect the many options and days available for viewing.
You can see shows from Shakespeare’s Globe in London, the National Theatre, New York’s Shakespeare in the Park (PBS), the Folger Theatre, Stratford Festival, and the American Shakespeare Center.
All the performances are free or very low cost and don’t require signing up for a new streaming service. Some outlets do ask for a donation, so we hope you’ll support their efforts in making their wonderful productions available to all during this trying time. We will make updates to this roster of options when we learn about interesting streaming stage productions of Shakespeare or as they become available.
Many productions are only available for a limited time, so plan ahead to make sure you see the shows that most interest you. If you are able, please consider a donation to these organizations. It takes a tremendous amount of resources to mount and then share these productions online. We’re grateful that they are able to share their artistry with the world by streaming their productions.
