In this taut, pared-down play of murder and dark ambition a ruthless lord seizes power with the help of his scheming wife and a trio of other-worldly witches. Urged on by eerie prophesies and ambitious desire, Macbeth slices through kinsmen, friend, and foe in a bloody climb to power at whatever cost.
(Armed combat in these plays requires a performance area of 20’ x 20’ or larger.)
Accompanying Workshops
Enrich your students’ Shakespeare experience by booking an accompanying in-class workshop with actors from our touring cast! We offer a variety of workshops, designed to fit our touring productions and tailored to work in your classroom. Seattle Shakespeare Company offers 1- to 4-day workshop series, each tied to the show your school is seeing.
Introduction to Shakespeare’s Language
If your students have never done Shakespeare before, this is a great introduction! This workshop introduces students to Shakespeare’s stories, his presence and influence on modern language, and verse and iambic pentameter, then gets students up on their feet to start to read and embody text from either the Romeo and Juliet prologue, or scenes from Macbeth.
Stage Combat
This workshop focuses in on the concept of stage combat, and how it is used in telling the stories in Shakespeare’s plays. Students will learn several unarmed combat moves, and choreograph them into a fight from either Romeo and Juliet or Macbeth.
Elizabethan Dress and Dance (for Romeo and Juliet)
Learn the history of Elizabethan dress, practice bows and curtsies, and learn two Elizabethan dances! Romeo and Juliet meet at a party, and students will gain an understanding of how important social functions were in Shakespeare’s time, as well as have fun learning to dance.
Scene Studies
Students will dig deep into the text with a partner, and learn how to take Shakespeare’s words and make them their own – no “acting” needed! This is an easy way for students of all ability levels to engage with scenes from our touring plays.
Free Study Guides
In preparation for the performance, teachers are provided a study guide for the production. Seattle Shakespeare study guides include a synopsis, background information on the play, insight to our particular presentation of the play, and activities for students to do in class. These are a great resource for increasing student understanding of the play, both before and after attending a performance.
