Seattle Shakespeare Company's productions are part of Shakespeare in American Communities: Shakespeare for a New Generation, sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts in cooperation with Arts Midwest.

Student Matinees

Live theater is an exceptional way to make literature and the arts immediate for your students, and classical plays bring the past to life before their eyes. Our producitons can satisfy Washington State EALRs in Reading, Writing, Communications, Social Studies, and Arts. Student matinees take place at the Seattle Center's Center House Theatre and begin at 10:30 a.m.

Cost: $10.00 per seat (Student matinee rates apply to home school groups.)

Matinee Resources

Study Guides

In preparation for the matinee, teachers are provided a study guide for the production. Seattle Shakespeare study guides include a synopsis, background information on the play, insight to our particular presentation of the play, and activities for students to do in class. These are a great resource for increasing student understanding of the play, both before and after attending a matinee.

Free teacher previews

All teachers are invited to a preview performance before bringing students to attend a matinee, and connect with our education staff about upcoming opportunities.

To reserve a space at one of our upcoming teacher previews, please email us your name, school, and how many seats you would like (up to 2). Deadline for reserving seats is the Monday before the preview.

Free Talk-Backs

In celebration of our 20th Anniversary, we are delighted to offer free talk-backs for all student matinee performances! All schools are invited to stay for a 15-20 minute Q&A with the actors after the show.

Pre-Show Workshops - $95

Valuable interactive workshops enhance students’ matinee experience. A professional teaching artist uses the language of the play to get students on their feet and using Shakespeare’s words to gain a better understanding of the language, themes, action, and characters before they see the play. Workshops are $95 for each 1-hour class period.
