Camp Bill

A Shakespeare summer camp, Camp Bill is guided by professional actors and teaching artists. Participants will get a hands-on experience with voice and text work, scene study, Elizabethan dance, and stage combat.

 


SESSION I: One-Week Introductory Camp

Dates: June 25-29, 2012, 10am-4pm
Location: The Seattle Center House
Ages: 10-15

Great for first-time Shakespeare students who are just looking to try something new!

Students will spend a week getting an introduction to Shakespeare, scene study, voice and movement, unarmed stage combat, and Renaissance dance — and have a ton of fun doing it! Students will each learn and study a monologue, and rehearse a short scene with two or more characters under the guidance of our expert teaching artists. They will learn a traditional Renaissance dance, and choreograph short unarmed combat sequences with a partner. The week culminates in a showcase on Friday afternoon.

Dates: July 9-20, 2012, Monday through Friday 10am-4pm

Perfect for young actors, or those who have seen Shakespeare before and are dying to try it out!

In this more intensive and in-depth Camp Bill, students get to immerse themselves in Shakespeare, scene study, armed stage combat, audition techniques, and choreographing their own Renaissance dance! Students in Camp Bill II will work together on monologues and scenes selected from our summer Wooden-O (Free Shakespeare in the Park) plays. They will learn the basics of Renaissance dance, and choreograph their own dance moves, and break out the swords to learn armed stage combat. The week culminates in a showcase on Friday afternoon.


Camp Bill Production Intensive


Dates: July 30 – August 17, 2012, Monday through Friday 10am-6pm
Location: The Seattle Center House
Ages: 11-17
Cost: $845 ($800 before May 1st, 2012)

The most intensive camp we offer, for students looking for a full theatrical experience!

Participants will spend three weeks designing and building their own sets and costumes, learning performance skills, and rehearsing a production of our 2012 play Twelfth Night. Every student will be involved in technical elements of the show, choosing costumes or scenic work, and every student will also be in playing a role in the performance. The full 90-minute production will be performed on the weekend following the last day of camp.


All the World’s a Tent: Shakespeare Circus

Dates: August 27-31, 2012, Monday through Friday 9am-3pm
Location: Teatro Zinzanni
Ages: 9-17

Great for young actors looking to combine Shakespeare and physical comedy in a week-long camp!

What do Sicilia, Bohemia and the world of cirque have in common? Spend an intensive week with the artists and instructors of Teatro ZinZanni and Seattle Shakespeare Company to find out. Apply your acting and circus skills to the text of the greatest playwright of the English language. Performance on Friday, August 31st, 2 pm at Teatro ZinZanni
