Lara Paxton

Lara is an cross-disciplinary performance artist whose pieces incorporate over-the-top costuming and character work with elements of circus, music, and dance. One of the pioneers in Seattle’s flourishing aerial and circus-arts community, in 1998 she founded Circus Contraption and served as artistic director for its 11-year lifespan. The dark, quirky, and well-loved troupe produced six original, full-length, consistently sold-out shows in Seattle and across the United States. An offshoot of this project, The Aerialistas, Seattle’s “aerial girl-gang,”  quickly established itself as a local darling in Seattle’s Moisture Festival.  In 2010 the troupe received its first international booking in Madrid’s prestigious Teatro Circo Price. This was followed by multiple engagements in German varieté theaters. Lara has also performed nationally and internationally with her solo works, in particular her signature mermaid on aerial anchor.
