Everyone in The Miser is trying to better their situation, but who really deserves the gold? Truly, all of them do.
Strong, skilled, experienced actors are the key to creating enthralling Shakespearean and classic theatre, and Seattle Shakespeare Company is committed to bringing the best actors possible to our stage. When you give a gift on behalf of the character and actor you enjoy the most in The Miser, you're directly helping to bring great actors to our stage.
Each dollar counts as one vote (and we encourage you to vote often!). Each week during the run of The Miser we'll tally votes to find out who is "winning." Please check back for the latest updates on the contest. The audience favorite pick will be announced at The Miser cabaret on April 5.

"My father has resigned me a fate worse than death. He wants to marry me off to an old man. I'd rather slit my wrists first. My true love, Valere, and I want to wed, but he's in disguise as a servant. I have my family, my reputation, and my father's rage to think about. If only I could come by a tidy sum of money to do as my heart desires…"
Played by Daniel Brockley
"I'm forced into a hideous masquerade acting as Harpagon's servant, despite my noble upbringing and my long-lost family. It's all so that I can win his confidence and hopefully marry Elise. My love for her is deeper than the ocean, wider than the sea, larger than all Paris. Now to get some gold to whisk my dearest away from her father's clutches…"
Played by Brian Claudio Smith
"What good will it do me to inherit my father's wealth when I am too old to frolic in the fields of youth! Oh, Marianne! You are my light, my love, my everything. I can't let my father steal you from my arms. But before I do that, I will need a new velvet coat and satin knee pants. Oh, to have some money for me and my love…"
Played by Leslie Law
"It's a hard world out there, and only wit and cunning will get you through. Men have been known to go without food and shelter for the commodities I trade in. But I have gotten myself into a little legal scrape, nothing really, but I'm afraid I might lose the case because my funds are all tied up right now, so I wondered if I could prevail upon you…"
Played by Craig Doescher
"May a plague fall on all misers and cheapskates! I serve Harpagon's son, but derive my greatest pleasure from vexing the old man. And I know he has some money hidden somewhere in the house, now if I could just devise a way to get my hands on it…"
Played by Shanna Allman
"My neck is directly under the guillotine! To be betrothed to Harpagon is a death sentence, especially since I've nibbled the earlobe of a certain dandy young man. I know it is my mother's dying wish that I marry a wealthy, older man, but surely there must be some other way to secure my financial future…"
Played by Todd Jefferson Moore
"I am in a sweat lest anyone should root out my precious money. But where to put it? A bank? Hah! Yesterday I buried ten thousand crowns in a strongbox in the garden. But what if the earth erupts and belches forth fire, smelting my coins! Oh the horror! But, if I marry sweet Marianne, I'll get some sort of dowry."
Played by Darragh Kennan
"From my master, Harpagon, I may take a whipping, but not from anyone else. They may call me a pot scrubber and a horse feeder, but I'll show them. Vengeance will be mine! But I may need a little bit of help, if you could spare it…"
